It’s been a busy summer so far at Loretto at the UN!
Our biggest announcement this month is the unveiling of our newly redesigned website! This website upgrade includes aesthetic changes as well as useful new features such as easy access to recent news updates and a redesigned post section for navigating our archives. Our hope is that the new version of this website will be both visually appealing and more user friendly as we seek to expand our online presence. We are excited to post updates and share resources on this newly improved digital platform!
In other news, there has been lots of exciting work being done on the issue of the rights of Women and Girls this summer. This year is the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which is considered to be the most progressive platform on Women’s Rights ever passed at the international level. Despite the suspension of the 64th Commission on the Status of Women due to the coronavirus, Loretto at the UN in conjunction with NGOCSW and many other passionate organizations have been working on several initiatives this summer to recognize the importance of this anniversary. The most significant of these is a Feminist and Women’s Movement Action Plan Teaching Resource Compendium, which once complete will provide resources on women’s issues and their intersections to educators, advocates, and others who are seeking to educate on these topics. Beth has been leading the section on Women and Environmental Conservation, Protection, and Rehabilitation, with research support from summer intern, Anna McLean. The Compendium is not ready to be revealed yet, but keep your eyes open for updates on this exciting project in the near future!
On the environmental front, Loretto at the UN has been busy planning for the upcoming High Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development. The HLPF is running from the July 7th to the 16th and will include Voluntary National Reviews from 47 countries on their progress, debate between participants on the implementation of the SDGs, and many parallel and side events hosted by civil society. Loretto at the UN is co-sponsoring a parallel event organized by the Committee of Religious NGOs which is titled, “A Shift in Mindset: Faith-Based Solutions to Climate Action Obstacles. This event will take place on Monday, July 13th from 12:00 to 1:30 EST, and registration is available here: https://forms.gle/uaYmVrwJWm6gLupCA. In addition to our organizational role, we are participating in and observing the Forum and its side events as it progresses. Look out for an update on our experience with this event on our website in the coming weeks!
