Loretto Volunteer, Ariana Alvarez, represents Loretto on the NGO Committee on Migration. Specifically, Ariana sits on the Subcommittee for Migrant and Children Refugees. The subcommittee had been diligently working on the developing of a position paper to be presented at the Global Forum on Migration and Development in Bangladesh in December. The paper required extensive research and was a collaborative effort spearheaded by the leadership of Maria Pia Belloni (OMEP New York Representative) and Jane McCall Politi (FAWCO UN New York Team Representative). The intention of the paper is to effectively outline existing good practices in Early Childhood Education for migrant and refugee children, provide adequate and effective recommendations for governments, and to stress further governments to take action. Overall, the heart of the paper developed after the September 19 New York Declaration of Migrants and Refugees. It was an honor for Ariana to contribute and work on a position paper with such a strong and immediate message in defense of migrant and refugee children all over the world.
